What are the Top 100 Kindle Books of 2022
Amazon calculates the best-selling rank (BSR, to those in the know) based on the number of books selling, both in a single day and sales over time, compared to other books in its store, updated hourly. In mainstream publishing, selling approximately 10,000 copies over the book’s lifetime is a success. But you’ll need sales of close to that daily to hit #1 rank on Amazon. Let’s take a look at the books that hit these numbers in 2022.
Thrillers and psychodramas jostled for top-spots with rom-coms in 2022, with female authors making up a significant proportion of the Top 20. Notable names: Colleen Hoover, author of It Ends With Us, occupies no less than 6 spots in the top end of the list, as well as appearing further down in the Top 50. Meghan Quinn’s breezy, steamy 90s-inspired titles like A Not So Meet Cute come up a close second, speaking to an ongoing romance resurgence.
This list also features multiple books in a series: readers following characters they love over an extended narrative, with fiction from traditional publishing houses overwhelming all other genres on the list. Significant exceptions include James Clear’s Atomic Habits, a self-help title published in 2018 which at #98 on the list still clocks up an impressive 91,842 reader reviews.
2022’s list suggests a lively fiction marketplace, defined by a need for escapist fare, a balance of light and dark, with a sprinkling of self-improvement. Punchy titles of 3 words or less, often featuring the male form in varying states of undress make up a sizeable chunk of the Top 100. While escape into new passion proves a recurring theme, readers also seek occasional nostalgic reads. Titans of horror and fantasy also make guest appearances: long-time favorites from J.K. Rowling and Stephen King still make the cut.
