“How do I free up storage space on my Kindle?” that’s a question Kindle users often ask.
Your Amazon Kindle e-reader device can run out of space quickly if you add loads of free books to it, or if you are a voracious reader. Each Kindle model has a different memory amount which will determine how many books you can store. Typically, the memory of a Kindle device is 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB. Considering those storage limits, it is important to keep an eye on the amount of available free storage space left on your Amazon Kindle device.

Free up storage space on your Kindle device
Now that you know how to check your storage space, it’s time for you to make room for more storage space. Follow these methods to make storage space on your Amazon Kindle device:
- From your Kindle’s home screen, tap the the dots in the top-right corner
- Select Settings
- Then select Device Options
- Select Advanced Options

At this point, you have two options for freeing up storage on your Kindle device. Either Manual Removal or Quick Archive. Both of these options remove content from your device, but you content will remain in your Kindle Library, and it can be restored to your device at anytime. Here is an explanation of how these two options work:
Manual Book Removal on Kindle
This option allows you to choose a content type, such as Books or Audible audiobooks. Once you decide between those content types, you can select as many items as needed to free up space.
If you select Manual Removal, you will access a menu with all the content items on your device.
- Check all the items you want to remove
- Select Remove
Quick Book Archive on Kindle
You can quickly archive items downloaded onto your device from the Cloud but haven’t been opened recently. In other words, this is a way to keep dormant books or ‘Audibles’ viewable in your Library, but they won’t be stored on your device until you decide to open or read them.
After selecting Quick Archive:
- Select the time period you want to archive the dormant books and Audibles on your device
- After that time period, they will be downloaded back onto your device
You can access the archived items by accessing the ‘All’ menu in your Kindle’s Library and downloading them earlier than the archive period you chose to archive them for.
Lastly, this Amazon Forum post will also show you how to remove a book from all your devices registered to your Amazon account.
