Kaz Iso is a Japanese Spiritual Master who has hundreds of thousands of followers in Japan, and his spiritual journey began when he first experienced Zen over 30 years ago. It was a 7-day Fasting and Zen retreat he participated when he just finished high school. He signed up for a physical reason to detox his body, but the Zen part of experience brought bigger impact on his later life. Japan has a notorious educational system for big college entrance exams, where the result of this one-time test determines the admission, and high schoolers often spend extra year after high school only to prepare for the exam. On that important day for the entrance exam, with the fatigue that was building up by studying nearly 13 hours every day for the test, Kaz started to fall asleep during the exam. When he woke up, he still had 30 min worth of test left when he had only 15 min left. As he was about to give up and put the pen down, he got into “Zen” mode and showed concentration almost beyond his capacity, and finished everything and made it to one of the most prestigious private college in Japan.
