Amazon’s Kindle devices are the most popular e-reader tablets in the world and they offer the largest selection of free books. Each new generation improves on the last with thinner displays, longer battery life, waterproof technology, and better built-in lighting. But finding out which model you own is not easy.
Sometimes, when you want to buy a new case, or troubleshoot an issue, you need to know what model Kindle you have. Amazon does not display the model in an easy to locate place, and with the numerous generations of Kindle Fire tablets and Kindle E-Ink devices, it can be hard to remember which one you have.
If you can’t remember what model Kindle you own, this guide will help you find the generation number and model name.

How to Find Your Kindle eReader Model Name
If you want to figure out what model Kindle eink reader that you have, there are 2 not-so simple ways to find out.
- You can look on the back of the device, in lower center area, for a model number. But Amazon choose to print this in black typeface, on the black plastic body of the device, in 5-point font. You’ll need a magnifying glass to read it. Once you locate the number, you then Google it to find the correlating Amazon device model.
- The second method is no less difficult than the first. You will need to locate your device’s serial number. Here are the steps:
- Navigate to the settings menu.
- Tap Device Options
- Tap Device Info
- The serial number should appear
Now, look at the first 6 digits of the serial number and locate it in the table below to find your device. (Thanks to Android Authority for providing this table!)
