Book Promotion Questions and Answers
How many book sales or downloads will I get from my promotion?
Book sales and downloads can vary widely, and there is no guarantee that a promotion from this site or any book promotion site will drive sales or downloads of your book. Books that tend to perform well in JustKindleBooks promotions are those with: covers the clearly convey the book genre, compelling descriptions, low/free price points, good reviews on Amazon.com. Our top performing genres are romance, erotic romance, mystery/thriller, paranormal fiction, urban fantasy, women’s fiction, sci-fi/fantasy, cooking and self-help.
What genres do you accept?
We accept all genres, including erotic romance. Our top performing genres are romance, mystery/thriller, erotic romance, paranormal fiction, women’s fiction, sci-fi/fantasy, cooking and self-help.
Does my book need to be free or discounted to run a promotion?
Your book does not need to be free or discounted to run a promotion with us. But keep in mind the lower the price of your book, the more sales you will make. We recommend that you price your book anywhere from free to $2.99 during your promotion with us.
What form of payment do you take?
We accept Paypal for payment. If you do not have Paypal account, no worries, simply select guest checkout and use your credit card. If you are in a country that Paypal does not operate in, then contact us and we can make alternative payment arrangements.
Why choose JustKindleBooks to promote your books?
Lots of reasons. 1) Kindle book marketing and promotion is our passion and with 7 years of experience we’ve dialed in a system that works. 2) We’re transparent with our numbers. We have a combined email list of 52,000+ readers with an average open rate of over 17%. 3) We invest significantly each month in growing our email subscribers and Facebook followers. 4) We allow you to use a short link so you can track exactly how many clicks your promotion drives to your Amazon detail page.
How far in advance should I submit my book promotion?
We can schedule book promotions within 24 hours. We can typically get your promotion in the next day if you submit it by 2PM PT/5PM ET. You’ll get a personal confirmation from us once the promotion is set up.
I want to track the clicks that come from my promotion, do you accept bit.ly links?
Yes! Include the bit.ly link or shortened tracking link you would like to use in the notes section of the submission form, and we will create the promotion with it.
What genres work best with your readers?
These are the genres that see the highest click rates on our site and in our newsletter: Romance (all sub-genres from Christian Romance, Sweet Romance, Paranormal Romance, Western Romance, Romantic Suspense, etc.), Women’s Fiction, Erotic Romance, Mysteries, Thrillers, Paranormal Fiction, Urban Fantasy, YA books with crossover appeal, Christian Fiction, Christian Spirituality, Biographies about women who have overcome challenges, Cookbooks, How-to, Parenting/Relationships, Fitness, Self-Help & advice books.
We see a slightly lower click rate on Children’s books, Sci-fi, Epic Fantasy, Literary Fiction & General Non-Fiction.
We do not recommend our site for technical books, computer programming books, textbooks, social studies, economics, art, graphic novels, education, history, law, science, political science, sports, reference, or travel.
Do you accept erotic romance?
Yes. We accept erotic romance, but if there’s too much offensive language in the book description, or if the cover depicts violence, nudity, or is overtly sexual we may reject the promotion and refund your money.
Can I submit a promotion for a book that is a preorder?
Yes.
Are there books that you do not accept?
We do not promote books with pejorative racial terms in the book title or book description. Additionally, we do not accept books that promote or advocate for racial hate.
What frequency do you recommend between listings for your paid book promotions?
If you have already run a promotion for a particular book, and you want to run another promotion for that book priced at $0.99 or higher, we recommend spacing out the promotions by several weeks. If you plan to price the book at free for the second promotion, then one week of spacing is sufficient.
Can I promote a book that is on pre-order?
Yes.
Can I promote a novella, short book or short story?
Yes, but we ask that in your description you call out that the book is novella or that you call out the page count. We want readers to understand what they are getting.
Can I submit my promotion now, even though I don’t have an Amazon ASIN?
If your book is not yet live on Amazon (i.e. you don’t have an ASIN yet for it), we have two options for you. 1) you can email us at “justkindlebooks (AT) gmail.com” and reserve a promotion date, then submit your promotion for that date once your book is live. Or 2) you can submit a promotion now and in the box where we ask for your ASIN, just write “coming soon.” We will send you an email about your promotion, simply reply to it once your ASIN is available.
What are the benefits of running a book promotion?
There are three main benefits of running a book promotion:
- Increase your sales: Book promotions help you reach your greatest potential audience to generate more sales.
- Gain more book reviews: Typically, 1 in 100 people who buy your book will leave a review. The more sales you make the more reviews you will get. When it comes to books priced at free, only 1 in 500 people who download your book will leave a review. You can help increase your number of reviews by putting a short message at the end of your book asking readers to review the book. Reviews carry trust and authenticity with potential new readers, and they help sell your book.
- Secure sales for future books: The more readers you get for your current book, the more you will have going into your next book. Running a book promotion now helps to build your fan base for the long term.
How can I prepare for my book promotion?
Here are the best things you can do to get your book ready to promote (listed in order of importance):
1) Make sure your cover reflects the genre of your book. If a reader can’t identify the genre of your book by glancing at your cover, you are likely losing sales that you could have captured.
2) Make sure your Amazon book description is well written. “Well written” is rather subjective, but here’s are some questions to ask about your current book description: Does it seduce the reader into wanting to know more about your book? Can readers tell what genre the book is from your book description? Can someone read the entire description in under 60 seconds? How does your book description compare against the book descriptions of the current best sellers in your genre? It’s worth looking at the book descriptions of some best sellers that are like your book.
3) Reviews, reviews, reviews. Real reviews from real readers help customers make purchases. It’s better to launch your book promotion after your book has some reviews. Our advice: never buy reviews. Don’t buy them even if the company selling them offers to buy your book, read it, and post the review on Amazon with Amazon’s verified purchase badge. We can spot fake/paid reviews, and we think readers can tell the difference between fake and real reviews.
4) Run multiple promotions at the same time. Running a Countdown Deal or setting your book price to free (both are only available if your book is enrolled in KDP Select) can lead to more sales. But authors can amplify theses sales by pairing a price discount or free sale with not one, but several, or many promotions that all launch on the same day. Why run all the promotions on the same day? If you can crack the top 100 on Kindle, your book has a better chance of organic discovery. We’re not the only quality book promotion site. There’s bookbub, pixelofink, bookgorilla, and many others. Here’s a fairly comprehensive list of free and paid book promotion sites: Big List of Book Promo Sites.
As an author what are the benefits of pricing my book at free and then promoting it?
Great question, there are six benefits of pricing your book for free, those include:
- More reviews: By our calculations you can expect to get 2 to 3 reviews per 1,000 free books downloaded. As all authors know, reviews are not easy to get. While you might lose revenue while your book is priced at free, you will gain reviews. Those reviews will likely come in over a month-long period after the book was made free.
- KU Reads: Even though your book is free to download, many readers are members of Kindle Unlimited and out of habit they will click the “Read now” button instead of the “Buy now” button. If your book is enrolled in KU, you can expect to see a big upswing in KU page reads. Authors with books enrolled in KU get paid roughly a half of a cent for each page read or $1 for each 200-page-reads. While your book is free on Amazon, you will see an uptick in page reads. The increase might be in the range of 2 to 20 times your normal daily rate, depending on how many copies you “sell” each day while the book is free.
- Amazon followers: Amazon encourages readers to follow authors. On your author page there’s a “follow” button, when a reader clicks on that, they are effectively signing up for automated emails and notifications about your upcoming books. These emails are highly effective sales drivers for your future books. And occasionally, Amazon allows authors to send a note to all of their followers. When readers buy your book on a mobile device, they are prompted to follow you immediately after taping the “Buy now for Free” button. How will you know how many followers you got during the time that your book is free? Unfortunately, you won’t. Amazon does not share that information with authors.
- Back Matter Actions: Readers who finish your book and enjoyed it are likely to take actions that you recommend in your back matter. For example, in your back matter you might ask readers to review your book, join your mailing list, follow you on social media, etc. See more on back matter actions here.
- Get readers interested in your series: Giving away the first book in a series is a great way to get readers interested in the rest of the series.
- Audio book sales: Giving away your Kindle book can help drive sales of that same book in its audio book format. If a Kindle book has an audio book version, Amazon will prompt the user to purchase the audio book, right after the download the free Kindle version. So while you might be giving away you Kindle book you might also be prompting users to buy the audio book.
